FORT KENT and VAN BUREN John P. Cyr, 86, husband of the late Charlotte (Pelletier) Cyr, died Jan. 9, 2002, at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor. He was born March 23, 1915, in Millinocket, the son of John A. and Martha A. Cyr. John served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After serving in the U.S. Army he worked for the Civil Conservation Corp, and worked developing the trails at Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor. He then worked for the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad for a number of years, then worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1972. He loved the outdoors, fishing, and cross-country skiing. He was a member and past commander of the Levasseur-Farrer American Legion Post No. 49 of Van Buren, and worked as a service officer for the American Legion for 20 years. He is survived by two daughters, Johnna Cyr of Topsham, Susan and her husband, Alan Blier of Hermon; one son and his wife, Ed and Mary Ann Cyr of Island Pond, Vt.; one brother and his wife, Sylvio and Mary Cyr of Anchorage, Alaska; four sisters, Rebecca and her husband, Val Franz of Daly City, Calif., Gloria Shea of South Hamilton, Mass., Virginia Young of Maywood, N.J., Caroline Barry of Dale City, Va.; four grandchildren, Heather K. and Christopher Blier, Eric and Julie Cyr; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his wife; he was predeceased by his son, Roland Cyr; his special friend of ten years, Ernelle Rouleau of Edmundston, N.B. Canada; two brothers and one sister. AMass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Bruno's Catholic Church in Van Buren, at a date and time to be announced later this spring.
