MILFORD – Onida Weda Dubois, of 83 Main Road, won the battle against lung cancer and flew away with the angels March 5, 2012. She was 75 years strong, and she will celebrate her next birthday with her favorite people, the angels who took her to heaven to, once again, see her parents, Melinda and Romeo Blier of Fort Kent; sister, Alphena Daigle of Frenchville; and brother, Harold Blier of Wolcott, Conn. Onida was born Oct. 5, 1936, in Fort Kent, and lived with her large family in a rural farm area.
She was born to be a hard worker, an excellent cook, a spic-and-span cleaner, and a compassionate caregiver to the elderly and sick. At 17, she married Ty "Harold" Dubois of Fort Kent, and started a family with him. She worked at the Fort Kent hospital for a short while, where she developed a passion for taking care of the elderly. This passion for care giving would eventually lead Onida to private duty, the job which she loved the most and fulfilled her career completely. The young family moved to the Houlton area where she was of service in a nursing home. Later, she continued to serve the elderly population at Orono Nursing Home when the family made their last move to the Old Town area. Finally, she turned to private duty and worked one-on-one with many people throughout the years, giving

to care for her patients. Onida was
an avid gardener, a dedicated homemaker, and had a spark and a smile that would bewitch those around her. Her family was her life. She was married to Ty for more than 58 years; he was the love of her life.
She was a wonderful mother to daughter, Nancy Bledsoe and Jim of Houlton; son, Philip Dubois and Barb of Southport, N.C.; son, Terry Dubois of Milford; daughter, Diane Ludden and her husband, Stuart, of St. Albans; and her Maltese, Cooper. While she loved many pets throughout the years, she had a special place in her heart for her beloved Fluffy, her first Maltese. She is survived by brothers, Norman Blier of Presque Isle, Herman Blier of Chester, Mass., Carl Blier, of Newington, Conn., Don Blier of Otis, Mass., Maurice Blier of Wolcott, Conn., and Reynold Blier of Monkey Island, Okla.; and sisters, Velma Jandreau and Leonard of Fort Fairfield, Bernice Grey of Thomaston, Conn., and Violette Savage of Stuart, Fla. She is fondly remembered by seven grandchildren, Michele Whittine and Jamie Stevens of Corinth, Brandi Guy and Paul Albright of Houlton, Andy Guy and Brandy of Big Forks, Mont., Nicole Crews and Tony of Jackson, Ga., Sarah Stewart of Milford, and lastly, her two granddaughters that were more like daughters to her, Danielle Borja and Anthony Cote of Hermon, and Brittany Borja of Bangor; nine great-grandchildren, Megan and Elizabeth Whittine of Corinth, Lindsay Stevens of Corinth, Kristopher, Kennedy and Kaitlyn Albright of Houlton, Emma Crew of Georgia, Sofie Stewart of Milford, and Brayden Borja of Bangor. Lastly, she is fondly remembered by special family friend, Wayne Melanson of Old Town.
Friends may call 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family Church. Immediately after the service all are invited to the parish hall for a light luncheon and continued fellowship. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome in her honor at Hospice of Eastern Maine, Healthcare Charities P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402-0931. Notes of condolence may be left at
